The StarShoot Deep Space Monochrome Imager III will put you on the cutting edge of imaging technology, using the same tri-color photo processing technique employed by professional astronomers the world over. The composites you take will combine to reveal previously unnoticed details in deep-sky objects. What's more, the new DSMI III utilizes the highly acclaimed 2/3" format Sony ICX285AL CCD with an impressive 1360x1024 pixel array. This impressive imaging chip provides high sensitivity and resolution, and yields superior color rendition when used with LRGB filters. The DSMI III utilizes Thermoelectric Cooling (TEC) - a feature not always offered by the competition - which dramatically reduces electronic noise for better-quality images. The TEC efficiency is further enhanced by an integrated cooling fan and aluminum heat sink camera body. Fan speed is adjustable and there's an optional TEC shutoff for severe outdoor conditions. The included MaxIm DL Essentials v2.04 software provides an easy interface for focusing, capturing, dual camera control for imaging and autoguiding, batch processing, dark frame and flat field calibration, image stacking, and more. All power for the camera, TEC and fan is supplied by a single 12-volt DC connection. A 10' power cable with cigarette lighter plug and a 10' USB cable are included. This review is from: Orion StarShoot Deep Space Monochrome Imaging Camera III (Electronics) I was using an Orion Starshoot DS II before this camera. Wow! This camera is a huge improvement over the previous camera. It has double the pixels and a more robust cooler with a fan and higher draw. No more battery-pack! Yay! The images are much cleaner - more pixels! And, the read-out is pretty fast. It is much larger than the DS II, but seems to be about the same weight. If I had an image ready to post with it I would. But, I am still working on getting Jupiter captured. Maybe in the future I'll amend this with an image.
